Is it possible to make a poem
By elucidating another poet’s method?
Say Eric Baus’ new prose piece
“The Scarlet Phoneme,”
Which is, itself, an echo
Of his poem “The Scarlet Phone.”
For the former of the two
He’s been connecting bits of e-mail spam
That escape his filtering program
By including text from novels within
The public domain & reworking
The syntax & nouns as to resemble
His interest in a heightened pictorial gesture.
The answer is yes.
